Charlie DANIELS Band - Simple Man 1989

Charlie DANIELS Band - Simple Man 1989

Blues

I was in college when "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" became a hit for the Charlie Daniels Band and Million Mile Reflections, the album that contained that song, went platinum. Million Mile Reflections is a classic, but I think Simple Man comes close. The title song is one of Charlie Daniels' classic Southern anthems, and he and his CDB bandmates rock out elsewhere on the record. The opening song "What This World Needs Is A Few More Rednecks", like "Simple Man", is a good old Southern country rocking song from Charlie, as is the toe-tapping song "Oh Atlanta", where Charlie showcases some of his fine fiddle work. The bluesy concluding number "It's My Life" is also a strong song. Furthermore, Charlie is a strong ballad singer. "Was It 26", "Midnight Wind", "Saturday Night Down South", "Old Rock 'N Roller", and "Mr. DJ" are all great ballads by Charlie and his CDB bandmates. If there's a weak link on Simple Man, I think it's "Play Me Some Fiddle". "Play Me Some Fiddle" is an OK song, but I don't think it's as good as Charlie's other fiddle anthems--"Texas", "The South's Gonna Do It", "Ragin' Cajun" and the aforementioned "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". "Play Me Some Fiddle" is too long(almost five minutes) and the story line--a bar patron gets into a fight which the cops break up--has literally been done to death in other songs. Even "Oh Atlanta", this record's other fiddle tune, is better than "Play Me Some Fiddle", at least in my opinion. Still, I think Charlie put together one solid album in Simple Man. I like this record, and I think anybody who likes the Charlie Daniels Band should have Simple Man in his collection.

The Charlie DANIELS Band, The - Me And The Boys 1985

The Charlie DANIELS Band, The - Me And The Boys 1985
EPC 26700

Blues

If you ask me what Charlie Daniels Alumbs that I like it would have to be this one cause it's a great alumb and cd. But if you ask me to name my favorite song from that cd it would have to be the song talking to the moon not that the other's ain't good cause they are like the single American Farmer it deals with the plight of the farmers right here in America. But the reason i chose talking to the moon because Glenn Frey wrote it and done it. So buy the cd no matter if you love Charlie or if you like great songs.

Charlie DANIELS Band - Blues Hat 1997 (REPOST)

Charlie DANIELS Band - Blues Hat 1997 (REPOST)

Blues

Blues Hat was the Charlie Daniels Bands initial release on Charlies own Blue Hat record label. On the record, Charlie pays tribute to the funky blues-rock music that, in addition to country, gospel and Southern rock, greatly influenced him. Charlie does a lot of soulful singing, and he and CDB bandmate Bruce Brown each put down some awesome guitar work. Also, Charlies longtime keyboard player, Joel "Taz" DiGregorio, is great on piano and organ. Charlie rocks out with "Boogie Woogie Baltimore", "New Orleans Parish Blues", "Birmingham Blues", "Gone Gone Blues", "If It Would Satisfy You", "Looking For My Mary Jane", and "Deep Elm Blues". Also, when Charlie slows things down on "If It Would Satisfy You", "Hard Headed Woman", and "No Fool Like An Old Fool", his voice is especially strong. Somewhat ironically, the weakest song on Blues Hat, at least in my opinion, is the one that got the most radio airplay, although its basically OK. Charlies updated version of his classic song "Long Haired Country Boy" is toned down from his original 1974 hit version. References to "getting stoned", "getting drunk", and "taking another tote"(smoking a marijuana joint) are replaced by "getting up", "getting down", and "telling another joke". Even with the updated lyrics, the musical arrangement on "Long Haired Country Boy" is still strong. My problem with the song is Charlies choice of guest singers. "Long Haired Country Boy" was originally a country rocker, and Hal Ketchum, one of Charlies guest vocalists, fits the song perfectly. Hals voice has a "rock" feel to it, but its country at heart. On the other hand, John Berry, at least in my opinion, sounds too much like a pop artist to really "fit in" on the song, although hes had a solid string of country hits. I dont dislike "Long Haired Country Boy", but I think it would have sounded better if Charlie had gotten his buddy Travis Tritt, a Southern country rocker, to sing with him. Still, I believe that Charlie, who has been making music with his band for almost three decades, put out a very good set of songs here. Blues Hat is a solid, bluesy record from Charlie and the CDB.
